About Sugar Ray

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: 11-0149
  • Color: Blue

This handsome boy was discovered abandoned in a metal dog crate on a 90+degree July day.

Volunteers named him Sugar Ray because he looks like a fighter (but is REALLY a love bug, greeting the volunteers with kisses) and he's going to bounce back STRONG.

He is a muscular Staffordshire Terrier who is a year or 2 old.  Initially he was boarded in a kennel and never messed inside.  He waits patiently for his leash to be put on and walks well, often with a slack leash.  He enjoys belly rubs, long walks and swimming/wading in the river.  He always willingly goes into his kennel and knows basic obedience.  He learns quickly and is eager to please.

Sugar Ray was initially introduced to a female shepherd and a male lab and showed curiosity and excitement, but no aggression.  He was vetted and neutered on August 10 and is recovering from flea dermatitis and his coat is filling in and he's looking quite handsome.

He was moved to a foster home on August 21 and is doing great walking with other dogs.  He lives with a blind, senior schnauzer and is gentle with her.  While on a walk with a young, playful male dog who wanted to jump on and at him and play, he showed tolerance and indifference.

He is crate trained and while already attentive and eager-to-please,  will be starting obedience classes in September.

He will make a devoted companion in a home with another dog, but with no cats or other small animals or young children.
