Cinnamon's Memorial Wall:

Cinnamon Bear was a loyal and happy Tibetan Terrier who loved tractor rides, long walks to the creek every evening, and chasing George the family cat up trees whenever the opportunity arose. She looked forward to long boat rides on the river in the summer. In winter she danced in the falling snow and ran through snow piles using her face for a plow. On windy days she would sit in the driveway and let the breeze blow in her face as if she was riding in the car with her head out the window, which she often did on many of our family drives.

In April 2010 a small bump appeared on Cinnamon's side. This was the start of what would be a tragic outcome for our little furry friend. A visit to our vet revealed a large tumor surrounding the liver. The next step was an ultrasound for a clearer picture of the involvement of the tumor. The news was no better. The lump on her side was due to the tumor, which had severely displaced her organs now causing them to protrude out her side. With heavy hearts we packed her up and headed to Cornell Veterinary Hospital with hopes of a miracle. It was an amazing facility and Cinnamon was treated like a queen, but the miracle we hoped for was not meant to be. With the placement of the tumor so close to a main blood supply to the liver and severely displaced organs her chances for a successful surgery and recovery were poor. After one more surgeon's painfully honest opinion, we did what we thought was the best for her.....to live out the rest of her life, as comfortably as she could, for what ever time she had left.

On December 12, 2010, despite being very weak, Cinnamon insisted on going outside. There she took her last walk through a snow pile, saved just for her in the shadow of our house, just a few hours before her last breath.

Our hope is that in memory of Cinnamon, donations to her Memorial/Medical Emergency Fund will help provide the medical attention needed to save the lives of animals that have a chance to recover and enjoy a happy, healthy future.

Cinn Fund Sonny

Handsome, loving, protective, loyal Sonny Boy (originally named “Homer” by his Haven-to-Home friends) left us to join his many rescued cat and dog housemates on June 17, 2022.He was a short-coated Collie with intense and intelligent dark eyes, irresistible velvet ears and a lush ruff that grew in when autumn nipped the air and, oh, how he loved playing in the snow.

We met him in February 2010 when he was about two-years-old. He had spent a feral year camping out alone on the edges of a dairy farm’s fields. The farmer told us that he and his family would see the big dog pacing back and forth but could never get close - they believed he was frightened. An extremely frigid winter forced Sonny Boy to venture into the barn with the cows and eventually into the warmth and safety of the farmhouse garage, lured by food set out.

Thankfully, Haven-to-Home then became involved.

Meanwhile, Lady, our happy, go-lucky rescued Yellow Lab, was grieving the passing at 12-years-old of her “brother,” our Black Lab named Bootsie, who had been abandoned at the end of our driveway as a 10-week-old pup and bravely began making his way up toward the house. Lady and our Yellow Lab Daisy adopted Bootsie as their own and joyfully taught him the ropes of being a dog.

My husband, Barry, and I discussed finding a small (lap-size) pal for Lady, but were enchanted by the few photos of “Homer” on the H2H website. We went to meet him along with Linda Hafer and trainer Mark Cusick and instantly fell in love, as did Lady when we brought Sonny home. She patiently taught him about being inside a house, toys, the couch, the five ‘downstairs’ kitties (all rescues, of course) and the best way to have fun in the large dog yard where they would frolic to exhaustion, then cuddle up on the porch with one of the outdoor kitties tucked in close. Sonny Boy soon became a confident, spectacular addition to the furry family. When it’s right, it’s right!

In summer 2015,a small fluffy dog that a neighbor saw being dumped out of a truck in the middle of the road, spent four months running from house-to-house in the area, eating food everyone provided, but racing away if anyone tried to approach. Worrisome - until Barry set out toys and a cuddle bed by the corn crib, where the dog immediately settled in. Following a week at the vet, brave little Pookie was in the house and immediately adopted Lady as her mom, Sonny Boy as her brother and Binky the Tuxedo Cat as her playmate. The three amigos and their feline pals kept smiles on our faces and a perpetual bloom of love in our hearts.

It was heartbreaking when Lady crossed The Rainbow Bridge in 2019, but Sonny and Pookie became inseparable. And as Sonny began experiencing health problems, Pookie appointed herself as his helper, a role she excelled in for almost three years until the morning in June 2022 when he peacefully passed away.

We still “hear” him vocalizing in his deep Collie way. We “see” him in his favorite spots. We “feel” his presence in every room. Pookie still waits and watches the door for his return from somewhere. His beautiful, strong spirit is woven around our souls, braided in with those of the many, many rescues we’ve loved and entwined with the dearest memories any human can hold.

We deeply miss Sonny; an authentic treasure …. as is little Pookie for whom we will continue to appeal to the universe and our wonderful local rescuers for a perfect partner.

Blondie Cinn Fund

In Memory of Blondie

Blondie was rescued in 2012 at the age of 8 by Haven to Home, after spending her life in a puppy mill. She came covered in fleas, weak and not able to sit up for very long, having spent her whole life caring for expensive puppies. Volunteer Linda Gemberling and her husband, Gerald, took her home to foster and quickly "failed" at fostering and adopted her. Blondie enjoyed almost 3 years of pampered retirement in their loving home and occasionally "worked" events as an ambassador for Haven to Home.
